Like the rest of the tourism industry, the last two years have been difficult for the thalassotherapy sector. Although it was affected by closures due to the health crisis, it is nonetheless a business that is immune to the crisis. A closer look at the revival of this sector…

A SECTOR RIDING THE WAVE OF THE QUEST FOR WELL-BEING

We have already mentioned it many times on our blog, but the well-being sector has been booming for the past few months. The health crisis took a toll on the morale of many French people, who are now looking for feel-good activities and wellness stays.

Spa-goers were therefore waiting for only one thing: the reopening! A constant demand, noticed by the main players in the sector, between each lockdown. The introduction of health protocols delayed the reopening of thalasso centres, which were able to welcome their guests again in the spring of 2021 after more than 7 months of closure for some establishments.

THALASSOTHERAPY IS NO LONGER JUST FOR SENIORS

The health crisis made people want to treat themselves and take time for themselves, far from the traditional daily grind. While thalassotherapy has long been an activity favoured by seniors, for the past few months it has been attracting younger people.

They are looking for a chance to disconnect for a weekend. As a result, 1-, 2- or 3-day packages are very popular with this clientele, who want to be pampered at the end of the week.

Thanks to private sales and attractive offers in the thalassotherapy field, this younger clientele has found that thalassotherapy has become more affordable. Indeed, for many years, it has been a sector often associated with health problems and with a certain elite. Short stays have thus helped attract a new clientele, keen to unwind over a weekend.

NEW TRENDS THAT MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO LAUNCH NEW PRODUCTS

The health crisis forced professionals in the sector to come up with attractive offers and concepts to attract a new clientele.

This is how detox, yoga and fitness packages are developing. Stays of varying lengths that satisfy a desire for well-being, whatever your age.

Gift boxes are also growing in this sector, as a way to offer loved ones a bubble of well-being for the holidays or for any other occasion.

Finally, as in holiday clubs, some thalassotherapy centres do not hesitate to offer family packages. Some establishments even offer thalasso stays reserved for new parents. A great idea for getting together as a family after the baby is born and spending time taking care of yourself.

HOTELIERS, DON’T HESITATE TO OFFER A THALASSO PACKAGE!

Seaside tourism has boomed over the past two years. This explains, in particular, the success of thalassotherapy. If you are a hotelier in a town with a thalasso centre, don’t hesitate to create an offer that meets your guests’ desire for well-being.

Make an agreement with the thalasso centre in your town. You can offer your guests gift vouchers, preferential rates or access to the thalasso centre’s relaxation area. An offer that is increasingly common in seaside resorts, and that benefits everyone!
